PROFESSIONAL COCKROACH GEL BAIT FORMULATION & MANUFACTURING GUIDE

Cockroach Gel Bait is a ready-to-use bait formulation designed for targeted placement in areas where cockroach activity is present.

The formulation combines food-based attractants, humectants, rheology modifiers, preservatives and other functional ingredients to produce a soft, adhesive and moisture-retentive gel.

The finished product is generally packed in syringes, cartridges or precision dispensing applicators for targeted spot application.

FORMULATION OBJECTIVES

The formulation is designed to provide good bait attractiveness, smooth and uniform gel consistency, controlled moisture retention, good adhesion to application surfaces, easy dispensing and consistent batch-to-batch quality.

FUNCTION OF EACH INGREDIENT

Glycerin

Glycerin acts primarily as a humectant and helps maintain moisture and softness in the finished bait.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene Glycol provides humectancy and contributes to the solvent system and overall gel texture.

Glucose/Dextrose-Based Food Bait

Provides a carbohydrate-based food component for the bait matrix.

Yeast/Protein-Based Bait

Provides a protein-based food component and contributes to the overall bait profile.

Xanthan Gum

Xanthan Gum provides viscosity, body and gel structure.

Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC)

CMC improves body, consistency and physical stability.

Non-Ionic Surfactant

The Non-Ionic Surfactant assists ingredient dispersion and formulation uniformity.

Preservative

The preservative helps protect the water-containing formulation from microbial deterioration.

Denatonium Benzoate

Denatonium Benzoate is a bittering agent that may be incorporated where appropriate and legally permitted.

Deionized Water

Deionized Water serves as the aqueous carrier and is used to adjust the final batch weight.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS

STEP 1 – WATER PHASE PREPARATION

Charge approximately 500–550 g of Deionized Water into a clean stainless-steel mixing vessel.

Start slow-to-medium agitation.

STEP 2 – XANTHAN GUM DISPERSION

Pre-disperse the Xanthan Gum into a portion of the Glycerin.

Add the dispersion slowly into the water under continuous agitation.

Continue mixing until the Xanthan Gum is properly hydrated and free from visible lumps.

STEP 3 – CMC HYDRATION

Slowly add Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) under continuous agitation.

Avoid adding the entire powder at once.

Allow sufficient hydration time until a uniform gel base is obtained.

STEP 4 – HUMECTANT ADDITION

Add the remaining Glycerin followed by Propylene Glycol.

Mix until completely uniform.

STEP 5 – CARBOHYDRATE BAIT ADDITION

Slowly add the Glucose/Dextrose-Based Food Bait.

Continue mixing until properly dissolved or uniformly dispersed.

STEP 6 – PROTEIN BAIT ADDITION

Slowly add the Yeast/Protein-Based Bait.

Maintain slow-to-medium agitation until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.

STEP 7 – SURFACTANT ADDITION

Add the Non-Ionic Surfactant slowly.

Avoid excessive agitation to minimize foam formation.

STEP 8 – PRESERVATIVE ADDITION

Add the selected Preservative and mix thoroughly.

STEP 9 – BITTERING AGENT ADDITION

Where required and legally permitted, incorporate Denatonium Benzoate in a suitable pre-dissolved form.

STEP 10 – INSECTICIDAL ACTIVE INCORPORATION

For a commercial pesticide product, incorporate only the registered or approved insecticidal active ingredient or premix according to the applicable approved formulation and supplier’s incorporation instructions.

Do not independently alter the approved active concentration.

STEP 11 – FINAL WEIGHT ADJUSTMENT

Add the remaining Deionized Water until the total batch weight reaches exactly:

1,000 g / 1 KG

STEP 12 – FINAL HOMOGENIZATION

Mix at low-to-medium speed until the finished gel becomes smooth and completely homogeneous.

Avoid unnecessary high-speed mixing because excessive air incorporation can affect filling and dispensing.

STEP 13 – DEAERATION

Allow the finished batch to stand until entrapped air and excessive foam have dissipated.

STEP 14 – FILLING

Fill the finished gel into compatible syringes, cartridges or precision bait applicators under clean manufacturing conditions.

APPLICATION

Apply the gel as small, targeted spots in suitable cockroach harbourage and activity areas.

Suitable locations may include:

• Cracks and crevices
• Cabinet corners
• Behind appliances
• Cupboard corners
• Suitable areas around sinks
• Other appropriate hidden harbourage areas

Do not apply directly to food, food-contact surfaces or areas where contamination could occur.

PACKAGING

Suitable packaging options include:

• Cockroach bait syringes
• Plastic cartridges
• Precision dispensing tubes
• Other compatible sealed applicators

Packaging should protect the formulation from contamination, excessive moisture loss and environmental exposure.

STORAGE

Store the product in a tightly closed container.

Keep in a cool, dry and well-ventilated location.

Protect from excessive heat, freezing and direct sunlight.

Keep out of reach of children and non-target animals.

Follow the storage requirements specified for the selected insecticidal active ingredient.

QUALITY CONTROL

Each production batch should be checked for:

• Appearance
• Homogeneity
• Gel consistency
• Extrusion performance
• Phase separation
• Net weight
• Microbiological quality, where applicable
• Stability
• Active ingredient content, where applicable

REGULATORY CONSIDERATION

When an insecticidal active ingredient is incorporated, the finished product becomes subject to pesticide regulations in the target market.

Before commercial manufacture or sale, verify the applicable requirements for the intended country or region, including active-ingredient approval, product registration, permitted co-formulants, labeling, packaging, safety documentation and efficacy requirements.

The insecticidal active ingredient and its concentration should be taken from an applicable approved or registered formulation and should not be selected arbitrarily.
